The Roots and Wings Foundation, established in 2014, is a support organisation dedicated to fostering the creation and development of vibrant communities in Hungary. We provide professional, financial, and human resources to empower grassroots initiatives. Our mission is to drive meaningful social change in Hungary by championing bottom-up efforts that encourage individual initiative, promote shared responsibility, and strengthen trust and solidarity within society.

Through its Community Foundation Support Programme, it advocates for the community foundation model in Hungary, offering professional support to emerging initiative groups and established community foundations. It draws inspiration from global practices while actively sharing our insights and experiences with individuals and organisations beyond Hungary’s borders.

As of 2025 January, community foundations are thriving in eight major Hungarian cities and five districts of the capital, collectively reaching a population of 1.2 million.
