The Community Foundation Ireland was established in 2000 and operates as a philanthropic hub with a mission of promoting equality in thriving communities. It provides expertise, networks, and knowledge that enable donors to engage in strategic giving and maximise their impact. Since its establishment, it has grown from €1 million in government seed funding to distributing over €130 million in grants to support communities across Ireland. As the only community foundation operating nationwide, it plays a central role in advancing community philanthropy in Ireland and acts as a national champion for the development of local philanthropy – including the establishment of county funds.
