Peer-to-Peer Exchanges
Have you always wanted to visit another community foundation from a different country to share ideas and knowledge, explore common challenges, and learn from one another? That is exactly what our Peer-to-Peer Exchanges are designed for.
The 2026 Peer-to-Peer Exchange Programme is now open for applications.
The Peer-to-Peer Exchange Programme
The Peer-to-Peer Exchange Programme offers cross-border learning opportunities between community foundations and community foundation support organisations across Europe. The programme fosters peer learning, strengthens collaboration, and builds lasting relationships to advance community philanthropy.
By engaging in these exchanges, participants help cultivate a sustainable European network of community foundation practitioners committed to community-led change and shared innovation.
NEXT PEER TO PEER EXCHANGE
Peer-to-Peer Exchange Programme 2026
Applications for the 2026 Peer-to-Peer Exchange Programme are now open.
For 2026, we particularly encourage applications that explore the role of community foundations in protecting and promoting democratic principles. Only organisations that have not previously received support under the earlier CF2CF Exchange Programme (now Peer-to-Peer Exchanges) are eligible to apply. Exchanges can take place throughout 2026, and applications will be assessed on a rolling basis while funds remain available.
Programme goals
The Peer-to-Peer Exchanges are designed to enable direct learning and collaboration between community foundations and community foundation support organisations. The programme aims to:
- strengthen organisational capacity and inspire new approaches
- encourage the sharing of effective practices
- support cross-border cooperation to address common challenges
- build lasting professional and personal relationships that help create collective solutions for the field
Eligibility and scope
The programme is open to CFs and CFSOs across Europe, including emerging initiatives. Participants may include staff, board members, founders, and volunteers – with preference given to volunteers with longer-term engagement. Exchanges are self-organised: organisations choose their own partners and define learning goals, with ECFI available to assist with introductions if needed.
- In-person meetings are prioritised, while online formats are possible
- Reciprocal visits are strongly encouraged
- Each exchange typically involves 3–5 participants, but larger or online activities may be supported if they serve the learning goals
- Exchanges may also include external expertise or facilitation to support the targeted learning outcomes
Funding
Each approved exchange can receive up to €3,000 to cover travel, accommodation, and related costs. Co-funding is encouraged to broaden the scope and impact of the exchange. Funds are allocated on a rolling basis until they are fully spent.
Application process
Applications open in November 2025 and remain open until the available funds are exhausted. The process is intentionally simple and trust-based: applicants complete a short online form, attach a budget outline, and submit by email. Applications will be considered against the following criteria:
- Clarity of purpose – clearly defined goals and expected outcomes
- Sustainability – potential for long-term partnership, especially regional cooperation
- Relevance – alignment with programme objectives and timely sector challenges
- Feasibility – realistic and well-structured activity plans
- Cost-efficiency – reasonable and appropriate budgeting
For 2026, we particularly encourage applications that relate to the role of community foundations in protecting and promoting democratic principles. Only organisations that have not previously received CF2CF support are eligible.
Reporting
Participants must submit a short narrative and financial report within two months of completing their exchange. Public sharing of insights – for example through a blog, social media post, or short video – is encouraged to spread learning across the wider community foundation field.
